Connecting Science
The Joint Network Center (GNZ) at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society (MPG) provides central IT services for the Max Planck Institutes and facilities in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The main tasks of the GNZ are:
1) Network infrastructure:
• Provision, administration and maintenance of the network infrastructure, including Internet access/connections and internal networks.
• Ensuring network stability and security.
• Implementation and monitoring of firewalls and other security measures.
2) Security management:
• Implementing and monitoring IT security policies.
• Conducting security audits and training.
• Protecting the IT infrastructure from cyber threats.
3) Server and data center management:
• Operation and maintenance of servers and data centers.
• Administration of storage solutions and databases.
• Ensuring data integrity and security.
4) IT support:
• Technical support for the Max Planck Institutes and facilities.
• Resolution of IT problems and support in the use of IT resources.
5) Collaboration and Communication:
• Support of communication and collaboration tools.
• Promoting collaboration between the various Max Planck Institutes and facilities.
6) Project management and consulting:
• Support for IT projects and the introduction of new technologies.
• Advising the institutes and facilities on IT issues and strategies.
The GNZ thus makes a significant contribution to the IT infrastructure and smooth operation of the Max Planck Institutes and facilities in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
